Hi everyone, welcome to this post, today’s post is all about how you can improve your English speaking for interviews, especially if you are a college student and placements are coming soon
Most of us can read and write basic English, we also understand when someone else speaks English, but the real problem starts when we have to speak on our own in front of others. Suddenly we feel nervous, we fear wrong pronunciation or grammar, and we think people will judge us. If you also feel this, you are not alone at all.
First of all, remember one thing very clearly: English is not a status symbol, it is just a skill. Speaking good English does not prove that someone is more intelligent than you, it only proves that they have practiced this skill more than you.
Treat English like driving. You can watch hundreds of videos on driving and read all the traffic rules, but you actually learn it only when you sit in the driver’s seat and make mistakes in the beginning. The same happens with English speaking; mistakes are part of the learning process, not a reason to quit.
Also, improving spoken English is not a “many years” project. With focused effort, you can see a noticeable change in 30 days if your interviews are one or two months away.
30-day Speaking Challenge
For the next 30 days, give yourself a small but serious challenge.Every day, sit for 20–25 minutes and speak in English on any topic of your choice.
Steps:
Pick one topic every day
- it can be something you studied today like “डिजिटल मार्केटिंग क्या है?” or any trending topic or even a general issue you know about.
- Open the voice recorder on your phone.
- Speak continuously for 20–25 minutes in English, without worrying about mistakes.
- After recording, listen to it once and note down where you are weak – pronunciation, grammar, sentence formation, or vocabulary.
- Work on those weak points gradually, but do not skip the speaking part any day.
Make a paper or tracker with 1 to 30 written on it. Every day you complete the task, put a tick on that date. After 30 days, you will clearly feel more confident and fluent.
Simple English, Not Fancy Words
In the beginning, do not try to use heavy, fancy vocabulary. Start with the simple and easy words you already know. The goal is to become comfortable in expressing your thoughts, not to impress the interviewer with difficult words.
As your habit of speaking in English grows, your vocabulary will automatically improve from the content you read or watch.
English Practice With People & Mirror
If you are in college and there are students from other states or countries who mostly speak in English, try to interact with them more. They usually don’t switch to Hindi or regional languages, so you will be forced to reply in English, and that will increase your practice naturally.
If you have a hostel room or some private space, practice in front of the mirror as well. Watch your facial expressions, body language and confidence while speaking. Communication is not only about words; it is also about how you present yourself.
English For Busy Students
If you really don’t get much time in the day, then at least give the last 10 minutes of your day to this. Stand somewhere alone and speak in English about your whole day – what you did from morning till night. You always know about your own day, so you never have to think about the topic.
Along with that, slowly start consuming some content in English – news, short articles, or an English newspaper. From there you will pick new words and sentence patterns without sitting separately with a dictionary.
Conclusion
So from today, decide that English is just another skill that you are going to practice daily. Start this 30‑day challenge, record your progress, and do not be afraid of making mistakes.
